Mullein is a beautiful flowering
plant that many cultivate in their gardens.
It makes a showy display with very tall
spikes of flowers. In some countries though, where the plant has been
cultivated outside Europe, its natural country
of origin, the plant has become like a weed.
Only the leaves are used
in NSP Mullein encapsulated herb. They have a furry texture and are full
of natural substances to help the respiratory
sytem and other systems as well.
For centuries mullein has been used as nutrition to assist the relief of irritated
throats and lungs. It may help relieve pain,
assist the fluid balance in the tissues.

A good source of iron, (a high amount), vitamin A, vitamin B2, vitamin B12 and niacin.
Mucilage is a saponin that helps
lubricate mucus membranes and is also an expectorant,
helping to expel excess mucous from the lungs. Tannins are also present and
are
beneficial for reducing swollen and inflamed respiratory passages, which is
useful in cases of asthma, bronchitis, swollen glands and breathing
difficulties. (Tannins have an astringent or tightening effect on the tissues).
Other uses for mullein have included
constipation,
sleeplessness, kidneys and nervous tension. It has also been used as an aid
to give up smoking.
