Astragalus
is a perennial
legume native to Northern China and Mongolia. It is used as a
nutritional value for the mucous membranes of the urinary tract and
the respiratory system.
In
Chinese therapy Astragalus is considered a balancer of the metal
element, which involves the defence system.
It is
a nutritive builder rather than a stimulator and used over a period
of time it acts slower than Echinacea but with good effect that
seems more subtle.
Commonly
used in the recovery period after illness. The Chinese have used
this herb extensively as a nutrient for chronic conditions rather
than acute.
Common names: Astragalus, Huang Qi, Milk Vetch.
